There is something magnetic, vulnerable, dangerous, and electric about 27-year-old Angela Perley that has been causing a lot of buzz around the artist and her band The Howlin’ Moons lately. Demure and quiet off stage, the performer usually shocks people when she tells them she is the lead singer in a band. “Yeah, usually when I’m talking to people I tell them I perform in a rock and roll band. Putting on a show is my way of being heard, I guess,” says Perley.

Their debut album “Postmodern Rock” quickly caught the attention of college radio stations around the country and garnered favorable reviews from critics around the world. Shortly thereafter, Minneapolis indie-rock king pin Ed Ackerson (Motion City Sountrack, The Replacements, The Jayhawks) signed the band to Susstones Records and produced their next two albums “New Infection” and “Turn It On”.

Brian Olive is a Cancer and was raised in Bright Indiana. His early musical years were spent alongside rust belt rhythm and blues makers The Greenhornes and Soledad Brothers. I am mentioning these facts merely in a “biography pre-requisite” fashion, because knowing these things about Brian Olive tells you nothing about where his latest (and second solo) album, Two Of Everything, is coming from. Well, except for the part about being a Cancer.

This power duo of acoustic guitar, percussion and vocals melds intricate harmonies and pulsating rhythms into an intense, energetic and mesmeric experience they have dubbed Tribal Rock.
“People have compared us to a cross between the Civil Wars and Robert Plant,” says Wu, “or an aggressive Dave Matthews.”

Bluegrass is a music steeped in tradition, but over the past decade and a half — much of it spent on the road – Yonder Mountain String Band has spearheaded a renegade movement to rewrite the definition of the genre. Alongside other neo-bluegrass friends such as Leftover SalmonSam Bush,Bela FleckThe Travelin’ McCourys, and Railroad Earth, YMSB has thoroughly revitalized and contemporized bluegrass and introduced it to many thousands of new fans. Rolling Stone said that YMSB “liberates bluegrass’ hot-shit riffing and blue-sky harmonies from its hidebound formalism,” while Paste Magazine wrote, “The Yonder Mountain boys have found a formula that works: take rootsy bluegrass influences, add in some rock ‘n’ roll, and seek out an adventurous audience.”
